AONB Management Plan

The current South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Management Plan was launched in April 2009 and covers the five year period 2009 to 2014.  This is the second statutory Management Plan for the South Devon AONB.  The Management Plan has two elements: Part 1 - The Strategy; and Part 2 - The Delivery Plan.  The Delivery Plan is revised and updated on an annual basis.

Producing a Management Plan is a statutory requirement for every AONB.  Its purpose is to:

  • Highlight the special qualities and significance of the AONB front cover 2009-14 plan
  • Present a vision for the future of the AONB
  • Set out objectives and policies to secure the vision
  • Identify what needs to be done, by whom and when
  • State the condition of the AONB and how the effectiveness of its management will be monitored
  • Reflect the views and aspirations of a wide range of AONB stakeholders and parties with an interest in it
  • Co-ordinate the work of different partner organisations

 Management Plan: Parts File type/size
South Devon AONB Management Plan - Part 1: Strategypdf  8Mb*
South Devon AONB Management Plan - Part 2: Delivery Planpdf  0.8Mb

*Please note that at 8MB the Strategy document is a large file - expect around a 30 second download time via a 4MB broadband connection.  For dial-up connections we recommend accessing the plan in sections (see further down this page for options).

The Management Plan is not just an internal working document for the AONB Partnership and the Staff Unit to act upon.  The Plan has to ensure outcomes for the landscape itself and harness the actions of all who live, work, visit or have any other interest in the area.  The current plan is the culmination of a recent review programme undertaken during 2008 and 2009.  For details of the review that was undertaken click here ...

March 2010:  Progress toward the 2009-10 Delivery Plan has been collated into a progress report giving short project update summaries for each of the 129 actions included in the delivery plan document.  A revised and updated Part 2: Delivery Plan for the AONB Management Plan will be available from the end of March 2010.  If you have a project that supports the conservation and enhancement of the South Devon AONB and you'd like to see it covered in the AONB Delivery Plan, please contact the AONB Project Officer roger.english@southdevonaonb.org.uk

Current Management Plan documents are listed above for you to view or download in Adobe pdf format.  If you would rather receive a hard copy of either of these documents please first consider the conservation of our natural resources and whether a printed document is really required for your purposes.  If you decide that an electronic copy is insufficient to meet your needs, please contact our office to request a printed copy of the Management Plan - Part 1: Strategy or the Management Plan - Part 2: Delivery Plan.

The earlier 2004-09 AONB Management Plan has now been archived and is only available electronically as a pdf download from the review pages to avoid any confusion.

The current Management Plan - Part 1: Strategy document has also been broken down into useful bite sized sections with correspondingly smaller file sizes.  The following table provides links to these sections and information on their contents.  Note - these sections also provide easier access to the Strategy for internet users with limited broadband speed or dial-up connections.
