South Devon's 50 Outstanding Years: 1960 - 2010
Back in 1960 this part of the world was protected as one of the most beautiful areas in England. Fifty years later it's still a very special place and the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is celebrating its Golden Anniversary.
Thanks to support from the Heritage Lottery Fund we've taken on two AONB 50th Anniversary Community Project Organisers, and Nicky and Sarah are out and about working with community groups across the Area. Lots of people are busy with lots of great projects. There's meadow mapping in Modbury and photo scanning in Malborough, poetry in Brixton and oral history in Strete, Cornworthy has an oak tree project and Holbeton's planning orchard fun... Find out more about some of the projects from the 50 Outstanding Years menu on this page.
There's still time to get involved. So if your group or school would like to join the celebration and need a bit of support, just give us a ring. Sarah and Nicky 01803 861384.
The 50 Outstanding Years Programme marks and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the designation of South Devon as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which took effect on the 2nd August 1960. |
