Freshwater on Land

 

Collect and identify freshwater invertebrates found in Slapton Ley, the largest natural freshwater lake in the South West, part of Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve.  Discover adaptations that help these incredible invertebrates survive in the freshwater habitat and identify invertebrates using microscopes and identification guides.

The Rocky Shore

Explore the extraordinary habitat between land and sea.  Find and identify the organisms that survive the intertidal zone, adapted to the challenges of sometimes being covered by the sea and sometimes exposed to the air.  Find out how this area is being impacted by our changing world.

Fish Inside and Out

Delve into what makes a fish a fish, and a squid a squid! Our expert team will guide you through a dissection of these incredible creatures to gain a unique insight into their unique biology. All equipment is provided.

Getting on the Water

Join marine biologists on a boat tour of Plymouth Sound, taking in key sites of special scientific interest, and performing scientific trawls of the area. Learn about the varied habitats found within this amazing natural harbour and get hands on with marine science.
