Walks & trails

There are over 40 walks across South Devon AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) to download here for free. They range in length from 2 to 12 miles and include a map, details of facilities and access as well as information on wildlife, archaeology and history.

Dartmouth to Greenway: The Dart Valley Trail (10/08/12)

Distance: 9 miles
Grade: Moderate to Strenuous

One of the area's truly great walks, this day-long ramble follows the wooded banks of the broad and beautiful river Dart, on a route crammed with gems and jewels of human and natural history.

Dartmouth Town Trail (10/08/12)

Distance: 1 mile
Grade: Gentle

A 2 hour gentle walk around the town of Dartmouth taking in historic features of interest.

Dittisham to Totnes: The Dart Valley Trail (10/08/12)

Distance: 8 miles
Grade: Moderate

A perfect, gentle day's journey, this walk links village to nestled, unspoilt village as it follows the silver ribbon of the River Dart through Devon's rolling hills.

East Portlemouth and East Prawle: Cycling route (01/08/12)

Distance: 12 miles
Grade: Moderate to Strenuous

East Portlemouth and East Prawle: Horse riding route (01/08/12)

Distance: 12 miles
Grade: Moderate to Strenuous

East Portlemouth to Gara Rock (19/11/19)

Distance: 3 miles
Grade: Moderate

Step out along the coast path, from the Salcombe Estuary and out to meet the wide open sea. Exhilarating scenery, and a wonderful way to get the wind in your sails.

East Prawle and Prawle Point: Colourful Landscapes (01/08/12)

Distance: 3.5 miles
Grade: Strenuous

East Prawle to Prawle Point (19/11/19)

Distance: 3.5 miles
Grade: Strenuous

A wonderful walk taking in spectacular coastal scenery and ancient green lanes. In one of the richest spots in Devon for plants and wildlife.

Greenway Walk (10/08/12)

Distance: 6.5 miles
Grade: Moderate

Experience breathtaking views of the spectacular Tor Bay, discover ruins, follow in ancient footsteps along historic trackways, through rural villages and countryside to the beautiful River Dart estuary and visit the National Trust's Greenway.

Hope Cove to Bolberry Down (25/11/19)

Distance: 4.5 miles
Grade: Moderate

A walk of towering cliffs and endless coastal views. Scenes and stories of shipwrecks, and the charm of Devon lanes winding between abundant hedgebanks with the beautiful, nestled fishing village of Hope Cove to start from and return to.

Kingsbridge to Bowcombe Creek (21/08/12)

Distance: 2.75 miles (Extended walk to Bowcombe Bridge +1 mile)
Grade: Moderate

A delightful route following creeks and green lanes steeped in the trade and travel of past times. Melting views of the boat-bobbing estuary and charming South Hams countryside, and a host of waterfowl and wading birds into the bargain.

Kingsbridge to West Alvington Woods (10/08/12)

Distance: 2 miles
Grade: Easy

Stroll out of Kingsbridge for a tranquil dawdle through parkland meadow and dappled woodland, just a hop, skip and a jump from the town - an unexpected delight.

Kingsbridge Town Trail (10/08/12)

Distance: 1 mile
Grade: Easy

A 1.5 hour easy walk around the town of Kingsbridge. Add at least an extra hour if you wish to explore the museum, churches and pubs.

Kingston (10/08/12)

Distance: 6 miles
Grade: Strenuous

A hugely rewarding coast and estuary walk with peerless views from some of the most dramatic cliffs in the area. It ends with a huge vista of South Devon, and the welcoming sight of Kingston village snuggled amongst the fields.

Kingswear and Waterhead Creek (12/12/19)

Distance: 2 miles
Grade: Easy to moderate

This short easy walk skirts the edges of Waterhead Creek in Kingswear before heading into the woods alongside the estuary and back along the railway line.
