South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty unit is one of the first groups in the UK to receive a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) All Our Stories grant, it was announced today. This exciting project “Living off the Land – the changing face of farming in South Devon” led by the South Devon AONB unit has been given £9,700 to examine farming in South Devon, focussing on how things have changed over the past 50 years, changes in farm size and in traditional family farms.
There are lots of opportunities to get out and enjoy something new or to be creative. New events include canoeing on the Salcombe- Kingsbridge Estuary looking at the birdlife, making your own ‘green’ Christmas decorations from the hedgerow and garden and a coastal walk with breakfast celebrating ‘Farmhouse Breakfast week’ in January. Other events include a variety of themed walks from archaeology and history to wildlife, and activities such as farm trails and wildflower gardening. All of these events are aimed at helping local residents and visitors to enjoy the AONB and gain a better understanding of what makes South Devon such a special place.
