A brand new group for outdoor activity providers in South Devon has been launched at Beeson in South Devon. All of the group’s members have signed up to the ‘Sustainable Activities Charter’ committing them to the highest environmental criteria.
The guest speaker at the meeting was Manda Brookman, supremo of the multi-award-winning ‘Coast One Planet’ tourism project. She applauded the elements of the charter with all businesses participating in relevant environmental accreditation schemes and abiding by countryside legislation and relevant countryside and marine codes. She encouraged businesses to offer a “high quality, low impact, joined up experience” She also spoke passionately about the environment as a driver for economic growth and illustrated this with a number of examples.
The chairman of the group is Ali Turner Jones of Sea n Shore from Salcombe. She told businesses “South Devon Outdoors is for “like minded ‘people who share their passion for adventure with their love of South Devon’s coast, estuaries, countryside and wildlife. An objective of the group will be to educate and attract customers to South Devon as a destination for adventurous activity. We hope to be able to act as a one stop shop for visitors and residents looking for outdoor activities in this wonderful location.” She also described the key membership benefits including joint marketing opportunities via social media, and to take advantage of joint funding and training opportunities.
Pete Moore of Forest and Beach was elected Treasurer of the group and Samantha Short Manager of the Kingsbridge Information Centre was elected as the Secretary. Enquires about membership can be made via email at [email protected]
