Television personality Monty Halls is to champion a new initiative to promote South Devon as an exciting area for sustainable, adventurous activities for all ages. It will be launched at an event in Kingsbridge to bring businesses in the outdoor activity and education sector together to discuss and co-ordinate ideas. It will be held in Kingsbridge on Monday March 18th.
The marine biologist and former Royal Marine is based in Dartmouth offering visitors outdoor adventure packages including wreck diving and wildlife trips. His enthusiasm for Devon’s great outdoors has been harnessed by the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In lending his support to the new campaign he said "This is a fantastic place to live and to share with visitors. Why go anywhere else when you can swim, sail, dive and paddle in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. "
AONB Estuaries Officer Nigel Mortimer said “Monty Halls’ company is one of a growing number of local businesses which can help people to discover and enjoy the great outdoors we are so lucky to live in. Sharing it with others can bring huge benefits to everyone concerned and with growing understanding and expectations, it is imperative that we ensure that we invest and are seen to invest in the environment that supports us all.”
The South Devon AONB Unit is facilitating this meeting to enable the sector to identify ways of working together for mutual benefit. This follows interest expressed at tourism workshops in the autumn of 2012. Similar businesses and organisations in Pembrokeshire have worked very successfully together forming the ‘Pembrokeshire Outdoors Group.’
