Be part of the heart – South Devon National Landscape celebrates National Moment

On Saturday 21st September, South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnership is celebrating the 1949 Act which created Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (National Landscapes) and National Parks.

 

National Moment

The South Devon National Landscape ‘National Moment’ will feature a large ploughed heart at the stunning location of South Down Farm, courtesy of The National Trust, close to one of the most breath-taking parts of the South Devon coastline near Salcombe. TQ7 3DU.

 

Guest of honour

Patron of South Devon National Landscape Jonathan Dimbleby is guest of honour and will read a poem especially commissioned to celebrate the anniversary by poet Laureate Simon Armitage. The event will mark the beginning of Landscapes For Life Week which will run until 29th September. Further events can be found on the National Landscape website at www.southdevon-nl.org.uk.

 

1949 – 2019

 

70 Years of agricultural machinery

The heart will be surrounded by vintage tractors of all ages from 1949 to the present day, many owned by members of The South Hams Vintage Machinery Club www.shvmc.co.uk.

 

Filming

There will also be representatives from the many organisations that the National Landscape Partnership works with to help keep the National Landscape a vibrant landscape for people to live work and play in. The heart will be filmed by a drone and the film used to make a national film of heart shapes of National Landscapes’ from across the country.

Timings: If you would like to join us, please arrive by 2.15pm, the drone filming will take place at 3pm.
