Kingsbridge town trail – Discover clues to the history of the town

A 1.5 hours easy walk around the town of Kingsbridge. Leave at least an extra hour if you wish to explore the museum, churches and pubs. There is an audio guide for this walk which is best listened to along the route via the South Devon National Landscape walks webpage.

Directions

  1. Heading towards the town, cross the road by the traffic island and turn into Fore Street. Opposite the Quay pub turn left into Mill Street.
  2. After exploring Mill St, turn into the aptly named ‘Squeezebelly Lane’ beside The Hermitage. Turn right and follow the leat along the path, turning left at the end back onto Fore St.
  3. Walk up the main street and take the passageway on your left marked ‘Baptist Lane’.
  4. After exploring Baptist Lane, continue up the hill stopping at points of interest on the way.
  5. Continue up Fore St.

  9. After visiting the Methodist church continue up the road past the Cookworthy Museum.
  10. walk up to Knowle House before returning back.
  11. Turn left into Duncombe St.
  12. Carry on up Duncombe Street, across Belle Vue Road into Waterloo Road.At the end turn left into Church St.
  13. After visiting the church, retrace your steps and keep left along Church Street.
  14. Follow Ebrington Street to your left (or follow Bridge Street to your right for a short cut back to The Quay).
  15. Turn right into Derby Rd and at the end turn left.
  16. Cross Embankment Road to walk alongside the estuary and back to the start.
