South Sands

Popular, sandy beach, sheltered from west winds.
Ownership
South Hams District Council.
Access
Six concrete steps to beach or concrete ramp.
Disabled access
Wheelchair access onto beach via concrete ramp.
Parking
There is limited parking (privately owned) at South Sands. Many visitors use the passenger ferry from Whitestrand Quay in the summer months or choose to walk.
Facilities
Toilets 40m, beach café, watersports and equipment hire from Sea Kayak Salcombe. Refreshments. Ferry to Salcombe. Telephone box at entrance to car park.
Lifeguard
None.
Activities
Suitable water area for young children when supervised. Coastal walks. Water sports. Swimming with no strong currrents when calm.
Dogs
Dogs are not permitted on the beach at any time of day between 1st May and 30th September inclusive.

Slipway access
Owned by South Hams District Council, managed by South Sands Sailing under contract to the council. Launching of craft permitted. Launching fees and beach boat parking permits available from Sea Kayak Salcombe and Salcombe Harbour Office.
